Visiting Copenhagen - land of the Nordic (and good genes)

*All photos were taken using a Blackberry*

I wanted to cry when my camera died-ed.

To update really quickly, I left my previous company, October 31st was my last day at work. Joined a new company on November 1st, and on November 2nd, I went for a work trip to Copenhagen, Denmark as the new company's HQ is there.

Anyway, i brought my Nikon DSLR, and guess what, on the day I wanted to use it, the lens just died-ed. Yes, that's right. Camera unusable *sigh* So i was left with my Blackberry, and as we know, Blackberry cameras leave much to be desired.

Copenhagen is a pretty interesting and nice country, reminds me a bit of Amsterdam (water canals and architecture), but I feel the people are nicer here. Had not many problems communicating with the locals, and they are generally quite helpful.

The company booked me into the Copenhagen Plaza hotel, a 4-star hotel there which has much history (google it! apparently many celebrities have stayed there. In fact, in the lobby, there is a list of celebrities who have stayed there). There is also the Library Bar (not to be confused with Library bars in Malaysia), with loads of books which can be read during the day even, and it is done up with heavy wood paneling.

Generally the cost of living there is freaking expensive! Example : 15-minute taxi ride to work from the hotel cost approximately 270 Danish Kroner (about RM 160) wtf. Travel tip: Taxi fare is payable by credit card there! Joy!

Luckily all expenses are borne by the company (and charged to our corporate credit card), if not i'd be bankrupt in no time.

Some memorable moments in Copenhagen:

1. Visiting the Little Mermaid statue:

Yes, my Danish colleagues warned me that she would be really little, and they were not joking. Dunno why but I thought she would be bigger. Felt a little bit cheated, sort of like when u chat with someone online and he/she sends you a picture which shows a good-looking person, but when you meet the person in real life, they turn out to be NOTHING like the picture. Yep. That feeling (not that I have ever had this experience). Apparently last year the statue was away in the Shanghai exhibition, and the statue has been defaced (head gone missing etc) before. Makes you wonder what notice/board they put up on the rock when the statue was away. 'Gone to China BRB' or 'Out of Office'? Hmmmm...

Got lost walking in the park on the hunt for the Little Mermaid. Travel tip: Do NOT ever ask tourists for help. Ever.

On the way back at the Osterport train station there was a flasher next to me and I didnt realise wtf. Fucker I hope your prostate gives you problems since you like having it out in the cold. I would have pointed to his 'wedding tackle', laughed and said "so small!" had I realised.

2. Taxi ride to Radisson SAS Scandic Hotel

Went with my two colleagues from China there for dinner at the Blue Elephant, a Thai fine dining place. One of my colleagues who has been to Denmark many times before asked the taxi driver if he knew which Radisson Hotel it was as there are two in Copenhagen. She told him it was the one with the casino. And he was like yes, there is only one casino in COpenhagen. Later she asked him whether it was safe to walk back to our hotel after dinner as we initially wanted to walk back. He paused, then said yes, Copenhagen is very safe, even if you walk back at 2-3 am.

We realised during dinner later that the taxi driver probably thought we 3 Chinese people must have wanted to visit the casino, and also thought we could win money and walk back later. (which explains why he said it was safe to walk back at 2-3 am when my colleague asked whether it was safe to walk back AFTER DINNER).

We did not visit the casino though. And we didnt walk back either (too damn cold).

3. Candy shopping:

None of it are for me btw. I just got myself 2 chocolate bars.

A few other memorable occasions there like visiting the Department Head's absolutely fucking huge and awesome house for a welcome dinner, getting separated with absolutely no contact whatsoever with my colleagues in Fields department store, dinner with colleagues and so on.

Too tired to continue, need to sleep now to offset my jetlag.

Thanks for reading, apologies for not updating as often as I would've liked.

Boss, I have principles too, you know?

It's not only you in the whole wide world who have principles and abide by them. So do I, boss. So do I.

As the mysterious, flickering flame of the candle as it consumes its wick, thus the candle burns while shortening simultaneously. (ah ling's metaphor for certain circumstances)

Let's put it mildly ; I for one have never been the person who 'lets the candle burn into nothingness'. 'Nuff said.

There's this huge seed of anger in me right now and if I don't get rid of it soon, it will soon 'explode'. And I really don't want that happening because it will take me 3 months to escape el shitholdo.

Work, the monster invading my life.

About the title, can I say I have a love-hate relationship with this monster.

Been seriously neglecting this blog, omg, SO NEGLECTING is more like it. Anyhow, am kinda apprehensive now our loan for our new 'toy' has been approved, god knows when the signing will take place. At this point in time, work has just managed to tip the scales in our lives, resulting in the office being the '2nd home'.

Oh yeah. This has resulted in me being sick (literally sick. Actually threw up in the office toilet 3 times on Friday night), exhausted, both mentally and physically and I can think of other more fun ways to get exhausted. Like playing paintball for example you pervs. wtf were you thinking about??! and just anti-social.

In fact, I have had to cancel my leave for the upcoming long Merdeka weekend because of a function *sobs*

I.Will. Persevere. I. MUST. PERSEVERE.

Because.......Well, keep reading this neglected blog of mine, and keep finding out what happens next.

P.S: On another note, have had 3 random strangers comment on my tattoo. Happy days.

A heartfelt letter to ah ling's blog.

I am so sorry that I have been ignoring you this week.

It was not my intentions at all. First, I started work on Monday. Besides pretending to be busy finding things to do so that I could keep myself busy, my body is still trying to adjust back to the hectic lifestyle of the rat race after a prolonged (and blissful) absence.

Over the next few days, I increasingly started having more work to do, so I have been having 14 hour days. In 4 inch heels.

Nowadays I feel that all I ever want to do is to physically merge my body with my bed. Mentally and spiritually, I am already one with my bed.

So dear blog, do forgive me because my eyes (and I) do get extremely exhausted after a long day of staring at a computer screen, and as we all know, the only way I'll ever be able to communicate with you is to stare at a screen of some kind.

Rest assured, dear blog, that it is not only you which I have been ignoring. You may also feel free to add 'my boyfriend', 'my dog', 'my bed' and of course 'my plants in Plants vs. Zombies' to the list.

Once again, my apologies dear blog.

Lots of luv,
ah ling

I have just signed my freedom away.

After nearly half a year of not working (and what a great blessedly long period of time it was!), it's time to start slaving working again.

Let's see how it goes.

Pray for me and wish me luck?

P.S: I nearly killed a mofo with shit for brains just now. Which idiot stands in the MIDDLE of a darkened road at night, and chooses to stand in a spot right AFTER a bend? KNNCCBTNSMCPHKL okay!! Luckily that bastard jumped back in time because the partner and I sure as hell didn't see him until it was too late. He damn well nearly got killed. I know this is really bad of me, but after our initial shock (which took us a while to calm down), I couldn't help wishing I had run over his foot. Pffffttttttt.

Sony PSP 3000

Present for the boyfriend. Sort of a 'thank you' present for the one week's short 'tour' during my week off.

----------------------------------------

It's been one hell of a week. I've barely the energy to do anything else besides crawl into bed and sleep right after work. Damn.

The whole of this week (it's Sunday already) sees me being impromptu temporary manager. Don't ask, but I can say it's going to be shite.

Sigh.

Half-naked photo of ah ling on PayPerPost -__-

There's a half-naked photo of me online. Okay, there are half-naked photos of me online everywhere. But where??!??

Turns out my blog is the featured blog of the day at PayPerPost...*big smile*.

And my cheque for my sitting down and listening and talking sometime last month for a half an hour session came in the post today.

No, I didn't prostitute myself, in case you are wondering, wtf -__-"

It was for my stint as an interpreter for a solicitor's client, and I got paid more than I expected. Yay! These are the two good things which made my day, and will keep me smiling through today at least.

P.S: The boiler in the house is prolly effed up. This means that essentially, we have no hot water to bathe, and until the landlord does something about this, we have to keep turning the central heating on to get the water WARM for quick showers. Sigh.

Closet readers, I bid you hello! =) / Belly Good Restaurant - not the best place to be if you are a pig.

Was pleasantly surprised to find out that a couple of ex-course mates from uni days are my closet readers. Lol.

Actually, when I first found out, I wondered what random rubbish I'd written before on the blog and if they had read about it.

Anyway I'm at home now and bored as hell. I quit my job last week. Seriously. I left at lunchtime and called the people in charge to say I'm never going back. It was either I quit, or slog it until I go mad, or get fired. I chose the first option, and I'm sticking to it.

The boyfriend got real excited when he called me, asking me with non-concealed excitement, questions like "Did you throw the headset and walk off?!" wtf -__-"""

Yeah, enthusiasm is a bitch. Especially if it is aimed at you, and you're not really up for it. But bless, he bothered to call me and ask me if I'm alright, and that's why he is the boyfriend to ME.
The boyfriend has a non-halal post btw, so hop on over to read about his food review of Belly Good Restaurant - The Pork Lovers' Paradise which is obviously a really good place to be if you:

(a)are Human
(b)eat pork
(c)are around the PJ area

but obviously not a good place to be if you are a pig.
Okay, I am so spouting rubbish off the top of my head right now, but go read read the review leh! I wish I could go now to makan (this is what happens to bloggers who read food reviews first thing in the morning).

I hope I chose the right choice today. Feeling ever so jaded, so my choice was to walk away.

I'm tired & cranky.

Kind of a really bad day at work.

No, scrape that.
It WAS a bad day at work.

Well it does pay for all the bills and more so I must hang on there! Thank god for the few people there who make it still bearable.

Earning British pounds is fab!

Just got my gaji (wages) for 5 days of work.

Unfortunately, by the time I got back from work a while ago the shops are all closed (except for the pubs and bars and the odd guy selling food from the van outside those places) so I couldn't spend any of the money.

Nah, kidding. Am waiting for Natwest bank to open on Monday to deposit my cash.

By the way, I got my office job. Today was my last day working in a Chinese takeaway shop in Worksop (near Sheffield) as an order-taker/counter girl (working there, I earn nearly the same amount weekly what I used to get in a MONTH back in Malaysia).

I start the new job on Monday. I am so fucked because I need to shop for office clothes ASAP.

xoxo,
ah ling

P.S: On the way to the train station this afternoon, I passed by the Sheffield stadium and there were loads of people going to the stadium because it is a match day. Dunno which team was playing against Sheffield United though. Anybody want to enlighten me?

Damn 7 tired!

Damn, so tired.

I was the only person aboard the last train back to Sheffield besides the conductor and the train driver.

Hell man, I wished I brought my camera so I could have cam-whored in the empty train. If I weren't so tired my imagination would have run so wild I would have been scared by my own reflection in the glass. (Think Midnight Meat Train.)

I need to bathe soon and I want my beebee =(

A reminiscence of when things were different.

Or most importantly, of how things will not turn out to be (hopefully!) if I can help it.

It doesn't pain me to talk about this anymore. As a matter of fact, when m last relationship ended all I felt was this numbness, which was quite surprising. Even my dearest mother was quite worried that I was devoid of emotions, to the extent that she kept asking me everyday how I felt about the whole situation.

Honestly, it hurts so bad the first time around shite happens in a relationship to the point I was contemplating doing stupid stuff. It hurts even more since you expected the relationship to last.Forever.

After it happens too many times, you start to wonder how much you are worth to the other person. And drawing your own conclusions from your 'analysis' hurts, but in the end, the analysis is often correct and then it hurts again.

Not trying to sound bitter here, but after getting 'burnt', sometimes you just couldn't be arsed anymore and start looking for a way out.

I think you must have realized by reading this blog that I don't talk about the penguinex-boyfriend anymore. Yup, obviously you must have drawn your own conclusions from that, and well, your conclusions have been correct.

But anyhow, I'm not feeling at all nostalgic tonight, but I am still going to post some pictures taken before the break-up because I think I look pretty in them *ehemehem*.

Right before my mum's birthday dinner:

Okay, blogger is being all pissy tonight prolly this is its way of ignoring me.Bloody hell.

Too bad then, gotta wait for the next time I get into the spirit of blogging.

Tomorrow night sees my colleagues & I going for a 'Ratro Party'. Yup. Not RETro, RATro. Year of the Rat is coming mar.

P.S: Life is good, no matter what they say. You only live once. No regrets :0)

one update for the weekend.

Friday at the office and normally, everybody gets so hyped up for the weekend that they are in energizer bunny mode.

This was so not the case today.

Anyhow, here's what my new hair looks like from the side.

Thanks Don for the candid shot.

Have a great weekend darlings.

Dreaming in another language.

Yam currently translating some stuff (okay, a lot of words!) into Malay. Brain. Cannot. Take. It.

Have been trying so hard to figure out how to translate paragraphs and paragraphs of words into proper Malay that pretty soon when I fall asleep, I am going to start dreaming in Malay as well.

I got a hug.

Yeah. That would have been great if it were only a hug. But no, I got my nose hit after that (it was an accident!). I mean i got a few hugs today from different people and that was great but that is totally besides the point.

Anyway, will have training for the whole day tomorrow. Apparently the view and the food there is going to be great *evil laugh* Hopefully there will be some cute guys there as well. But the thought of getting there is really bleh. Fighting with people on the LRT early in the morning? So not my cup of tea. I'm looking forward to the training though. Really.

P.S: Thanks for the slightly-more than half carton and the bracelet my dear. *hugs*

I don't know what to wear already!!

Don't know what to wear already to work!! I don't want to go!!! *Throws tantrum*

heheh, no-lah, imagine not wanting to go to work just because I don't know what outfit to throw together wear.

Reminds me of the time Joyce and I were in Rome at Spagna, and she started throwing a tantrum because we were hot, exhausted, cranky and annoyed. She was sick of navigating and I must say I don't blame her.

She damn kheng chau man, really pissed off already can still pose.

Anyhow, that girl is coming back, like REALLY REALLY SOON. So if you do manage to read this before you get back here, please bring back my Natwest debit card AND also my Rail card travel pass yah? Thanks babe! =) (Also if there's enough space in your luggage please help me buy Aeros yeah? You know the green & brown ones..)

Don't know if I've posted this picture up before, but what the heck. I <333 this picture. A lot.

Bless the person who helped us take this.

Anyway, I wanted to post up some other recent pictures since I just got my camera back, but I ter-left the charger AND the card reader in my car. Yeah. Forgot-lar. Getting old liao =( I dare NOT see the pictures in my camera now. Especially since my camera just left the clutches of a crazy German guy...xD (Sorry Ole, just taking the mickey out of you...=) )

I was SO NOT supposed to blog today. In fact, I'm supposed to be asleep already.

Damn sad. Seriously, no more bumming days anymore =( Finding it difficult to wake up early nowadays for work. But! For the past 2 days I have still managed to go to work on time with makeup on. Sometimes, I really admire myself (Cheh, sendiri perasaan..) wtf.
